Camping at The Cyder Farm.

If you’re looking for a quiet campsite in Suffolk, somewhere that isn’t loud or crowded, The Cyder Farm is a good little spot. We’re over in Ilketshall St Lawrence, not far from Bungay, on a small working farm. It’s simple here. The lake sits roughly in the middle and the pitches sit around it in an easy sort of way. Most people notice the space first and the quiet second.

You’ll see the odd animal wandering about, hear birds most of the day, and every now and then you’ll catch a carp breaking the surface. There’s room for tents, caravans, roof tents and all the usual kit. Nothing fancy or overcomplicated. Just a calm place to land.

A Quiet Campsite in the Suffolk Countryside

The cyder farm

The campsite is fairly open. Bit of grass, some young orchard trees, the lake close by, and enough space that you don’t end up sitting right next to someone else’s tent. You pull up, step out, and you can almost feel your shoulders drop a bit.

We welcome: tents, roof tents, small campers and caravans

We’re fine with dogs, barbecues, off-ground firepits, awnings, gazebos and all that. Bring what you need and settle in. You can pick between electric hook-up or non-electric depending on how you like to camp.

Facilities are straightforward. A couple of portable toilets, a chemical waste point, and someone on site most of the time if you need anything.

Perfect for Bikepackers and Cycle Tourers

If you’re bikepacking around Suffolk or moving through the Waveney Valley on a longer ride, the farm works nicely as an overnight stop.

We’re right by a handful of quiet lanes and little byways that drift between Bungay, Beccles and Halesworth, and you can get out towards the Broads without much effort.

Cyclists roll in fairly often. You just lean the bike somewhere out the way, grab a pitch and breathe for a minute. It’s an easy stop on a multi-day route.

The Cyder Farm is on the main road from Halesworth to Bungay and further afield are some lovely country roads with some amazing routes connecting some beautiful Suffolk villages.

Aaron’s been putting in the miles and regularly stops at The Cyder Farm. After back surgery, he turned to biking and bikepacking to build his strength back the slow, honest way. Long days in the saddle, quiet tracks, and steady progress. His journey’s told in Little Victories over at www.littlevictoriesfilm.co.uk — worth a watch if you need a bit of grit and hope today.

Fishing for Campers

The lake is part of our day fishery, but if you’re staying with us you can fish for free as long as you’ve got your rod licence.

Most people sit by the water for a bit, watching the carp move around. It’s a slow, quiet sort of fishing. You don’t need to be an expert.

Hot Tub Beside a Quiet campsite in Suffolk.

The hot tub sits close to the water, tucked in near the bank. It stays warm, roughly around the 38-degree mark, and gives you a cracking view across the lake. Folks tend to wander over after a bit of fishing or a day out and end up staying longer than they planned.

There’s nothing better, as the sun is setting, than sitting in the hot tub, listening to the birds. The air cools off, the sky turns that soft orange, and everything slows down for a bit. You can feel the day drifting away while the last few birds call across the fields. It’s one of those small moments that makes the whole place feel calm and tucked away from everything.

Exploring the Local Area

If you want to head out for the day, there’s plenty around. We’re close to the coast, the Broads and lots of little villages with decent pubs. Some guests go into Bungay for a wander, others head to the beach or walk the lanes.

A few favourites:

Southwold

Dunwich

Walberswick

Quiet campsite in Suffolk.

The Cyder Farm is a small place with a personal feel. Good if you like a quiet pitch, a bit of fishing, a soak in the hot tub, or a night in a roof tent with open sky above you. Cyclists stop through, campers stay a night or two, and some stay longer without planning to.

We’re still working on things bit by bit, improving the land and the buildings as we go. It changes each season, which is part of the charm really.
You’re welcome to be part of it.
