About Us – Welcome to The Cyder Farm

The Cyder Farm is a growing countryside retreat in Ilketshall St Lawrence, Suffolk, where traditional orchard life, peaceful camping, lakeside fishing, and smallholding charm all come together. What started as a restoration project has steadily become a place for people to relax, explore, and enjoy a slice of rural Suffolk.

Our story begins with the old Cherry Tree Farm and its long history of orchards, ciders, and family life. When the farm fell into decline, much of it was in danger of being lost. In 2021, a new chapter began when the land was brought back to life under new ownership and renamed The Cyder Farm. Since then, the aim has been simple: respect the past, rebuild what was lost, and create a warm, welcoming space for visitors.

Campsite – A Peaceful Suffolk Escape

In 2025 we opened The Cyder Farm Campsite, set beside the lake and surrounded by wide Suffolk countryside. The campsite is designed to be calm, spacious, and a little bit special.

Guests can enjoy:

  • pitches for tents, small campers, and caravans
  • hot tub overlooking the lake
  • access to the day fishery
  • firepits, quiet evenings, and stargazing
  • a relaxed base for exploring the Waveney Valley

Fishing – Sit Back and Watch the Carp Feed

At the heart of the farm is our lake, created by joining the original pond and lake into one.
It’s now home to a small day fishery, where visitors can sit at the water’s edge and watch carp feeding on the surface. Peaceful, simple, and perfect for anyone wanting a slow, easy day close to nature.

Restoring the Original Buildings

Many of the old farm buildings had become worn or overgrown.
We’re restoring them carefully, preserving original features and Suffolk character while making them useful again. Every building restored helps keep the history of Cherry Tree Farm alive.

A Working Smallholding

The Cyder Farm is also a living, breathing smallholding.
We’ve replanted the orchard with healthy young apple trees, reintroduced animals and poultry, and revived the land so it can be productive once more.
The long-term goal is to bring traditional Suffolk cyder-making back to the farm.

Events – A Growing Calendar

As the farm develops, so does our programme of small, down-to-earth events, including:

  • countryside and craft workshops
  • tasting sessions
  • community events
  • apple pressing days
  • seasonal gatherings

A Work in Progress

The Cyder Farm is still evolving, with new projects happening throughout the year — from building renovations to orchard work and improvements to visitor facilities.

We share ongoing updates, behind-the-scenes progress, and event news across our social channels.
